After we graduated, I went to CSM for two years and received my AA degree. I was also working at the Safeway store in Millbrae at the time. I transferred to San Francisco State and received a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics thanks to the inspiration of teachers like Mr. O’Malley and Mr. Irons at Cap. Because of all the war protesting at SF State, I transferred to Chico State to get my teaching credential and roomed with John Bertaina.
After receiving my teaching credential, I got a position at Yuba City High School as a Math Teacher and taught there 37 years. Of those 37 years, I was Director of Student Activities for 4 years and also was the Math Department Chair for 7 years. During my teaching career, I went back to school and received a Masters Degree which allowed me to teach part time at Yuba College in Marysville California. I retired from the high school in 2007 but I am still teaching a class at the junior college. I love teaching still and am not ready to give it up completely yet.
As for my personal life, I married my former wife in 1972 and unfortunately we divorced after 11 years of marriage. We had three children: two girls and one boy. Their names are Angela, Christopher, and Jaime. I have 5 grandchildren and one on the way in August. Here’s the funny thing. My son’s wife Kim is the daughter of Joe Graben who graduated from Cap in 1966. Joe played football and baseball with many of the guys in our class. Yes, my son married the daughter of a former mustang. (=
I still keep in touch with Mike Matosich and John Bertaina. In fact, last year John and I took a two week trip to Italy. However, I don’t go to Millbrae too much as my mom passed away last year and now like many of us my parents are gone. I still visit my older brother who lives in San Bruno though.
I so look forward to the reunion and to catch up with many of my former classmates. The sad part is many of my good friends from high school have since passed, but then again some will be at the reunion. Always, Ken Berri
